Yeongdeungpo-gu Supports Medical Expenses up to 500,000 Won for Pregnant Women Aged 35 and Over

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will implement a medical expense support program for pregnant women aged 35 and older residing in the district to promote the health of both mothers and babies.

Recently, due to various social factors, the age of marriage has been delayed, leading to a continuous increase in the age of marriage and the age at first childbirth. In particular, pregnant women aged 35 and older have a relatively higher risk of high-risk pregnancies compared to general pregnant women, and the number of prenatal check-ups and tests is more than twice as many, resulting in increased medical expenses.

Considering this reality, the district operates a medical expense support program for pregnant women aged 35 and older to reduce the economic burden on families with advanced maternal age and to encourage healthy childbirth.

The support target is pregnant women aged 35 and older residing in Yeongdeungpo-gu as of the application date, with medical treatment and examination dates on or after January 1, 2024. The program supports up to 500,000 KRW per pregnancy for outpatient treatment and examination fees to check the condition of the mother and fetus during pregnancy, and all medical expenses incurred since January of this year will be retroactively supported.

In particular, to promote participation in this program, the district has established an online system to enhance application convenience. Those wishing to participate can apply through the ‘Mongttang Information Universal Key’ website, and if online application is not possible, assistance is available by visiting the district health center. Eligible applicants can apply from the confirmation of pregnancy up to six months after childbirth.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “I hope this program will help alleviate the economic burden on families with advanced maternal age,” and added, “We will do our best to create a livable Yeongdeungpo-gu through projects and support that correspond to the changing household structures.”
