Gachon University Launches Semiconductor Specialized University... 14.8 Billion KRW Support Over Next 4 Years

Gachon University Launches Semiconductor Specialized University... 14.8 Billion KRW Support Over Next 4 Years Gihe Ryeo, President of Gachon University, and school officials including faculty members are attending the inauguration ceremony of Gachon University's Semiconductor Specialized College on the 17th and taking a commemorative photo.

Gachon University has taken its first step toward becoming a hub for semiconductor education.

On the 17th, Gachon University held an inauguration ceremony at the Gachon Convention Center, attended by Gachon University President Gil-yeo Lee, academic officers, and over 80 professors from the semiconductor college, to announce the vision, goals, and operational plans for the Semiconductor Specialized University Support Project, the university announced on the 18th.

Earlier, on the 5th, Gachon University was selected as a standalone institution for the Ministry of Education’s ‘Semiconductor Specialized University Support Project,’ which aims to intensively nurture universities with semiconductor education capabilities and commitment.

Accordingly, Gachon University will receive 4.36 billion KRW in the first year of the project this year, and from 2025 to 2027, it will receive 3.5 billion KRW annually, totaling 14.86 billion KRW.

At the inauguration ceremony, Gachon University presented its vision and goals to establish a new model for leading education of future talents in the semiconductor field and to cultivate essential talents who will lead K-semiconductors.

To this end, over the next four years, the university plans to recruit an additional 40 outstanding faculty members in the semiconductor field, increasing the total to about 100, build infrastructure capable of educating on the eight major semiconductor processes, and introduce the latest technologies, design tools, and equipment applicable to semiconductor design and process infrastructure to nurture core talents specialized in semiconductor circuit design and semiconductor process fields.

Additionally, to promote the project, a Semiconductor Specialized University Project Group will be established directly under the president, consisting of an Education Operation Team and an Industry-Academia Cooperation Operation Team.

Gachon University President Gil-yeo Lee emphasized, "With the selection as a Semiconductor Specialized University, we will contribute to enhancing national competitiveness by strengthening the technological foundation of the semiconductor industry and promoting innovation through practical talent cultivation. We will also strengthen cooperation with semiconductor companies, local governments, research institutes, and others to become a pipeline for nurturing global talents specialized in semiconductor circuit design and processes."
