13 Universities and Local Community Organizations Declare Joint Cooperation
Kyungnam University held the "Kyungnam University Glocal University Implementation Plan and Joint Cooperation Declaration Ceremony" to announce its core glocal vision, capabilities, and commitment to realizing the digital transformation of the Changwon National Industrial Complex.
The event, held at 2 p.m. on the 4th floor Simyeon Hall of Hanma Future Building on the 17th, was attended by over 400 key figures from various sectors, including students, professors, staff members of Kyungnam University, as well as representatives from Gyeongsangnam-do, Changwon Special City, local innovation agencies, and AI and DX-related industries, all of whom play pivotal roles in regional development.
The event began with video messages from Gyeongsangnam-do Governor Park Wansu, Changwon Special City Mayor Hong Nampyo, and National Assembly member Choi Hyungdu, wishing for Kyungnam University's final selection as a Glocal University. This was followed by congratulatory remarks from Gyeongsangnam-do Vice Governor Choi Manrim and Changwon Special City First Vice Mayor Jang Geumyong, a progress report from Kyungnam University National Project Promotion Committee Chair Hong Junghyo, and an implementation plan report by Glocal University Preparation Team Leader Choi Seonuk.
Kyungnam University's Glocal University implementation plan centers on becoming a "Changwon Industry-Academia-Research Integrated University," focusing on nurturing digital convergence talent and providing close-knit support for enterprises to drive the digital transformation of Changwon National Industrial Complex. The plan boldly highlights innovation in four key areas: ▲linked and spatial innovation ▲educational innovation ▲regional industry and social innovation ▲governance and operations.
During the subsequent declaration ceremony, representatives from 13 organizations?including the university, local governments, government-funded institutions, and companies?jointly pledged to cooperate for the official designation and successful implementation of the Kyungnam University Glocal University 30 Project, aiming to foster innovation in the region's society, industry, economy, and talent, and to drive mutual growth between the university and the region.
The declaration was signed by Kyungnam University President Park Jaekyu, Gyeongsangnam-do Vice Governor Choi Manrim, Changwon Special City First Vice Mayor Jang Geumyong, Google Cloud Korea Division Head Kim Seonsik, Megazone Cloud CEO Lee Juwan, Markbase Executive Director Lee Donghyun, GMB Korea Executive Director Park Jongwon, Gyeongnam ICT Association Chairman Oh Yanghwan, Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute Director Lee Geonung, Gyeongnam Technopark President Kim Junghwan, Changwon Policy Research Institute President Kim Youngpyo, Changwon Industry Promotion Agency Acting President Lim Jaebong, and Korea Industrial Complex Corporation Gyeongnam Headquarters Team Leader Lee Kangsu.

The glocal ceremony, filled with the determination and aspirations for becoming a glocal university, also drew attention. All participants raised placards and banners reading "Let’s Go Glocal Kyungnam University," chanting slogans together to express their commitment to the project's selection.
The second part of the event included a briefing for all university staff on the establishment and preparation status of the RISE (Regional Innovation-led University Support System) project, hosted by the Ulsan-Gyeongnam Regional Innovation Platform Smart Manufacturing ICT Project Group. Immediately after the event, a business agreement ceremony was held with Dassault Systemes Korea for joint promotion of the Glocal University and RISE projects.
President Park stated, "For the past 50 years, Kyungnam University has played a key role in Korea's manufacturing industry, and we are now focusing on securing new growth engines for the future of the Changwon National Industrial Complex and driving the 'digital transformation' of Gyeongnam's core manufacturing sector through the Glocal University 30 Project. By emphasizing openness, shared cooperation, nurturing digital convergence talent, and fostering global small giants, we aim for mutual growth of the university and the region. I ask for your strong support and encouragement for Kyungnam University's bold innovation, challenge, and final selection."
