Deliciously Spicy Flavor with Cream Cheese Harmony
80,000 McMorning 'Gochu Cream Cheese Muffins' Sold
McDonald's new menu items, the 'Jinju Chili Cream Cheese Burger' and 'Jinju Chili Cream Cheese Muffin,' launched on the 11th through the 2024 'Taste of Korea' project, surpassed 500,000 sales within just six days of release.
These menu items feature 'Jinju Chili Cream Cheese,' which combines cream cheese with pickled Jinju chili peppers grown under abundant sunlight in the Gyeongnam region, offering a clean spicy flavor. Since chili peppers, one of the most familiar ingredients to Koreans, are the main ingredient, the items received enthusiastic responses from customers immediately after launch, achieving 500,000 sales in six days.
McDonald's analyzed that the popularity is due to the harmonious blend of the sharp spiciness favored by Koreans and cream cheese, creating a 'deliciously spicy' taste. Additionally, by launching the breakfast menu item 'Jinju Chili Cream Cheese Muffin,' customers can enjoy the taste of Korea from morning to evening, which has also been well received. Riding this wave, the Jinju Chili Cream Cheese Muffin sold approximately 80,000 units within six days. The beverage menu item released on the same day, 'Yeongdong Shine Muscat McFizz,' has also sold about 100,000 units to date.
Customer positive responses to McDonald's local sourcing project 'Taste of Korea' are also considered a driving factor behind these sales achievements. On social media and other platforms, customers shared various comments such as “Trustworthy McDonald's Taste of Korea menu” and “After garlic and green onions, now chili peppers too; it really captures the ‘Taste of Korea.’”
Since 2021, McDonald's has been introducing new 'Taste of Korea' menu items to promote the excellence of domestic regional specialties and practice regional coexistence through agricultural product procurement. Through this project, McDonald's actively uses high-quality domestic ingredients, providing customers with delicious and fresh menus while invigorating local farms and enhancing positive perceptions of regional coexistence.
A McDonald's representative stated, “We are grateful for the interest and love shown toward these new menu items. McDonald's will continue to seek out the ‘Taste of Korea,’ offer new experiences, and steadily practice coexistence with domestic regional farms.”
