Gwangju Bank announced on the 17th that on the 16th, it held a ceremony at Gwangju Metropolitan City Hall to deliver sponsorship funds for the 'Support of Wandering Detectors for Dementia Elderly in the Gwangju Area,' attended by Kang Gi-jung, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, Ko Byung-il, President of Gwangju Bank, Park Cheol-hong, Chairman of the Gwangju Community Chest of Korea, Kim Dae-sam, Director of Gwangju Metropolitan City Social Service Institute, and other officials.
As the number of missing elderly with dementia increases every year, Gwangju Bank donated 350 million KRW to safely protect dementia patients who may wander from crimes and accidents, and to contribute to building a social safety net through early detection in case of disappearance.
The donated funds will be used to purchase approximately 1,000 wandering detectors and 2,000 smart tags, and the items will be distributed through cooperation between the Gwangju Metropolitan City Social Service Institute and the Gwangju Metropolitan Dementia Center.
The distributed items include not only wristwatch-type 'wandering detectors' but also 'smart tags' that can be attached to dementia patients' belongings (shoes, bags, clothes), enabling real-time detection and tracking of the location information of dementia patients, which is expected to help in their prompt discovery and return home.
President Ko Byung-il stated, “We hope that the support of wandering detectors will help prevent missing incidents in advance and reduce the psychological anxiety of dementia patients and their caregivers,” adding, “Gwangju Bank will continue to make greater efforts to create a warm local community by carrying out social contribution activities that consider socially vulnerable groups.”
