Jongno-gu Installs ICT-Integrated Smart Poles at Cheonggye 7-8ga

Replacement of Aging Cables and Streetlight Poles

Jongno-gu Installs ICT-Integrated Smart Poles at Cheonggye 7-8ga Jongno-gu started the smart pole installation project in 2022 and has completed installations from Cheonggye 1-ga to 6-ga. Provided by Jongno-gu.

Jongno-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) is carrying out the "Streetlight Improvement and Smart Pole Installation Project" in the Cheonggyecheon-ro area until September this year.

The target area is a 680-meter section stretching from Cheonggye 7-ga to 8-ga. This project involves investing 300 million KRW of district funds to replace 6,000 meters of old cables and 28 worn-out streetlight poles in the area, creating a safer nighttime road environment.

The project also includes the installation of smart poles that combine advanced information and communication technology (ICT) to enhance residents' safety, welfare, and convenience. The smart poles feature a dimming control system that adjusts streetlight brightness during late-night hours when vehicle and pedestrian traffic is low, preventing power waste and reducing electricity costs.

Since 2022, Jongno-gu has been installing smart poles on Jahamun-ro and Sungkyunkwan-ro, and this year plans to expand the installation to Cheonggyecheon-ro. Additionally, the district is promoting the construction of a private network to strengthen communication infrastructure and maximize the functionality of the smart poles.

By building public Wi-Fi based on the private network, it will be possible to provide citizens with high-quality, fast, and stable Wi-Fi services. Furthermore, various smart city services can be introduced by collecting and analyzing data on fine dust, temperature, humidity, noise, and more in the area.

District Mayor Jeong Munheon explained, "By installing smart poles equipped with advanced technology, we will strengthen communication welfare and focus on completing a smart city that residents can experience in their daily lives."
