Chairperson Choi Hojung Meets with UNESCO's First Female Director-General for a Conversation

Choi Ho-jeong, Chairperson of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, met and had a conversation with Irina Georgieva Bokova, former UNESCO Director-General, who visited the Seoul Metropolitan Council on the 16th.


Former Director-General Irina Bokova served as Bulgaria's Minister of Foreign Affairs and a member of the Bulgarian National Assembly. She was the first female Director-General of UNESCO, serving for eight years from 2009 to 2017.


During her tenure as Director-General, she actively contributed to the adoption of the United Nations' 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and in 2016, she was included in Forbes' list of the world's most influential women.


Chairperson Choi Ho-jeong said, "I am very pleased and delighted to meet the first female Director-General of UNESCO as the first female chairperson of the Seoul Metropolitan Council," adding, "I ask for your valuable advice based on your extensive experience. I will strive to become a respected female politician like you."
