12 University Teams Compete Over 8 Days
Mayor Lee Sang-il: "Will Hold Annually in Yongin"
The main competition of the largest festival in the theater world, the '42nd Korea Theater Festival Yongin,' has concluded, and the 'Korea University Theater Festival,' held for the first time this year, opened on the 16th at the Forest Education Center of Yongin Natural Recreation Forest in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
During the 7 nights and 8 days event until the 23rd, participating students in the theater festival will interact and share their works at Yongin Natural Recreation Forest. The final performances of 12 university teams, who qualified through preliminaries, will be held until the 22nd at ▲Yongin Poeun Art Hall ▲Yongin City Culture and Arts Center Cheoin Hall ▲Yongin Culture and Arts Center Maru Hall ▲Yongin Lifelong Learning Center Large Eoul Madang.

During the theater festival, various programs are also prepared, including ▲'Artist Talk' where participants can hear experiences from senior theater artists such as director Ko Seon-ung and actor Baek Il-seop ▲creative workshops with actor Kim Min-jae from KRA Art School ▲summer picnic and 60-second film festival at Everland ▲Guild Battle & Community Program with guild (team) members.
At the opening ceremony, Lee Sang-il, mayor of Yongin and chairman of the theater festival, Son Jeong-woo, chairman of the Korea Theater Association, Han Won-sik, chairman of the Gyeonggi Branch of the Korea Theater Association, and Kim Hyuk-su, CEO of Yongin Cultural Foundation, attended to encourage the participants.
Mayor Lee said, "We will hold the University Theater Festival annually in Yongin to support the dreams and talents of university students who love theater," adding, "If the response and interest increase and the city’s financial conditions improve, we plan to develop it into a global university theater festival with participation from university teams around the world." Mayor Lee is also scheduled to watch the university theater festival performances on the 19th.

Meanwhile, the awards evaluating the results of the '42nd Korea Theater Festival Yongin' and the '1st Korea University Theater Festival' will be held during the closing ceremony on the afternoon of the 23rd. With the closing ceremony, the month-long theater festival held throughout Yongin will also conclude.
