Gyeonggi Province will begin distributing this year’s first “Opportunity Income for Artists” starting from the 17th.
The Opportunity Income for Artists is a flagship project of Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province, providing an annual support of 1.5 million KRW to artists who create social value, helping them take pride in their work and focus on their creative activities. Last year, opportunity income was provided to 7,252 artists across 27 cities and counties.
From the 17th to the 19th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will make the first payment of 750,000 KRW per person to a total of 1,718 certified general artists from 27 cities and counties as the first installment of the Opportunity Income for Artists.
The Gyeonggi Province Opportunity Income for Artists project began accepting applications simultaneously in 27 cities and counties from the 24th of last month, and within about 20 days, 8,403 applicants, accounting for 81.6% of the total 10,298 eligible recipients, applied.
According to Gyeonggi Province, the Opportunity Income for Artists will be paid intermittently based on the order of application and review progress, considering individual recognized income and whether there is overlapping benefit at each city and county. The province plans to complete the first payment by August and proceed with the second payment in October.
Meanwhile, for the first time this year, the Opportunity Income for Artists for newly certified artists will be paid as a lump sum in October after confirming overlap, since the Korean Artists Welfare Foundation will select recipients for the Art Activity Preparation Fund support after the end of August.
A Gyeonggi Province official stated, “Applications for the Opportunity Income for Artists will be accepted online and offline until July 31,” and added, “We hope that more artists will apply during the remaining application period, revitalizing artistic activities within the province and creating an environment where culture and arts can be enjoyed anywhere in daily life.”
