Gyeongnam Province Awards 400 Million Won in Scholarships to 200 University Entrants Again This Year

Gyeongnam Province awarded a total of 400 million won in scholarships to 200 students from Gyeongnam who entered university this year.


On the 16th, the province held the "2024 University Admission Outstanding Student Scholarship Award Ceremony" in the main conference room of the provincial government building, where scholarships were presented to the recipients and their parents, along with words of encouragement.


The Gyeongnam Scholarship Foundation, established in 1991 to foster local talent, has provided a total of 7.4 billion won in scholarships to 3,232 university students from the region to date, using funds contributed by the province and donations from various sectors.


BNK Gyeongnam Bank donated 10 billion won in 2016, and NH Nonghyup Gyeongnam Headquarters has been contributing 300 million won annually to the scholarship foundation since 2016.


This year, among 322 applicants announced in April, 142 freshmen at universities within the province and 58 freshmen at universities outside the province were selected as outstanding scholarship recipients through expert evaluation and the scholarship foundation board’s review.

The award ceremony was attended by Governor Park Wansu, Vice Governor Choi Manrim, Jo Cheongrae, Head of NH Nonghyup Gyeongnam Headquarters, and Hong Eungil, Executive Director of BNK Gyeongnam Bank.


GTL CEO Hwang Geonho, a young entrepreneur from Gyeongnam, and Jeon Sunyoung, Senior Researcher at Doosan Enerbility, were also invited to share their success stories in entrepreneurship and employment, and to encourage students in their university life.


One scholarship recipient said, "Taking my first step into a new world is nerve-wracking, but I am grateful for the support from my region. I hope to experience and learn a lot and grow together with Gyeongnam."


One parent commented, "This will be a meaningful gift for my child, who has worked so hard. I will do my best to help my child grow into an outstanding talent who can contribute to our region."

Governor Park said, "I hope this scholarship, made possible by the dedication of many people, will be a small spark for your passion and determination. I look forward to seeing you grow into passionate young people with a love for your region."


The Gyeongnam Scholarship Foundation plans to provide 200 million won in scholarships to 200 university students in the province in the second half of this year and will newly launch a study abroad support program for 30 students at Towson University in the United States.
