YouTuber Sued for Defaming Parents
Lawyer and broadcaster Seo Dong-joo has announced legal action against a YouTuber who posted content defaming her and her parents.
On the 15th, Seo Dong-joo shared a screenshot of a shaman YouTube channel and a photo of a complaint document on her Instagram. She wrote, "I kept getting calls to watch the video since morning, so I wondered what it was about," adding, "They say successful people are going to commit suicide, talk carelessly about my sick mother, and call the deceased a demon."
She continued, "What kind of people have no conscience," and said, "Psychic? Not a single prediction was correct, only wrong things, and how is that different from criminals who scam people trying to make money?" She also warned, "Fine, let's go all the way. You picked the wrong person."
The YouTube channel she mentioned mainly posts content where shamans predict the fortunes of celebrities. It has over 450,000 subscribers. Videos about Seo Dong-joo and the late Seo Se-won and Seo Jeong-hee have currently been deleted from this channel.
Seo Dong-joo is the daughter of the late comedian Seo Se-won and model-turned-broadcaster Seo Jeong-hee. Last year, she appeared in Netflix's "Devil's Plan" and MBN's variety show "Light Aircraft Healing Adventure - Captain Kim is Here!" Recently, she has been actively working as a broadcaster, appearing on Channel A's "Great Birth" and JTBC's "Divorce Reflection Camp - Refresh."
In April, Seo Dong-joo said on her YouTube channel "Itakangsa Seo Dong-joo" that she was gathering evidence to sue malicious commenters. At the time, she said, "I can tolerate comments about my appearance, plastic surgery, or bikinis," but added, "However, when I see posts mixed with insults about my parents, I want to take legal action."
Meanwhile, broadcaster Hong Seok-cheon recently announced legal action after sharing messages from netizens who sent him abusive language. He posted a direct message (DM) exchange with a netizen on his Instagram, where the netizen sent him an insult saying, "Hey, you son of a b****, do you think everything is fine just because you’re doing well?" After reading the message, Hong Seok-cheon replied, "I will sue. My lawyer said this is grounds for a lawsuit, so wait."
