Gwangyang High School Seniors Receive 300,000 Won Support for Certification Acquisition

Nationally Certified Qualifications such as Driver's License, Foreign Languages, and Korean History

Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced that it will support up to 300,000 KRW per person for certification acquisition costs so that high school seniors can continue meaningful school life until graduation.

Gwangyang City will receive applications from nine high schools in the region during August and provide subsidies. After the application period ends, the city plans to support 270 million KRW from the city budget proportionally according to the number of students at each school.

This year, the support for certification acquisition costs targets high school seniors who reside in Gwangyang City with their parents (guardians) and have obtained nationally recognized certifications (such as driver's licenses, national computer-related certifications, Korean history proficiency certificates, foreign language certifications, etc.).

The criteria for selecting recipients may vary by school, including priority support for households receiving basic living subsidies and first-come, first-served basis. For exact details, inquiries can be made to the high school where the student is enrolled after the subsidy is granted.

The certification acquisition period is from August 1 of this year to February 7 of next year, and the support amount is based on the certification exam fee, with a maximum of 300,000 KRW per student.

Full support is provided for fees of 100,000 KRW or less, and for fees exceeding 100,000 KRW, a basic support of 100,000 KRW plus 50% of the amount exceeding 100,000 KRW is provided.

Households receiving basic living subsidies will have the full exam fee supported as a measure to consider socially disadvantaged groups.

The support funds are paid by submitting copies of the certification and exam fee receipts that prove the expenses after obtaining the certification to the school, which then deposits the support money into the student's account.

Jung Yong-gyun, Director of the Education and Youth Division, said, “We hope that high school seniors in the region will obtain various certifications to help them take their first step into society.”

Meanwhile, Gwangyang City has been promoting the ‘High School Senior Student Certification Acquisition Cost Support Project’ since 2021, and last year supported certification acquisition costs for 668 high school seniors from nine schools using city funds.
