Last year, Seo-gu signed a business agreement with the five comprehensive social welfare centers for a new public-private cooperative welfare project called ‘Maeullo (路) Welfare Center.’
Since then, the welfare centers have actively expanded welfare services, which were previously facility-centered, to nearby neighborhoods, focusing on discovering vulnerable groups, preventing solitary deaths and suicides, and operating specialized programs tailored to the characteristics of each neighborhood to solve residents’ welfare issues.
Kumho Comprehensive Social Welfare Center is responsible for Kumho 2-dong and Pungam-dong, Mujin Comprehensive Social Welfare Center for Yudeok-dong and Dongcheon-dong, Ssangchon Comprehensive Social Welfare Center for Sangmu 1-dong, Siyoung Comprehensive Social Welfare Center for Hwajeong 3-dong, and Nongsung Bityeoulchae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center for Nongsung 2-dong, Yang-dong, and Yang 3-dong, providing visiting welfare services to residents.
At this meeting, 15 staff members from the five welfare centers attended to share the achievements of the Maeullo Welfare Center project over the past year, discuss difficulties faced in the field, and explore future directions.
In particular, the staff unanimously expressed, “As the scope of activities expanded from being limited to facilities to the entire neighborhood, we have been able to build relationships with residents who need attention and care and provide customized welfare services, which gives us great satisfaction.”
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, “I have seen new hope through the staff who work passionately and conscientiously on the ground,” and added, “Let us join forces in the public and private sectors to realize a kind city where neighbors care for neighbors and a warm living government.”
