Achieved Two Years Ahead of Original Goal
Busan Port Authority (BPA) has announced plans to create 30,000 cumulative jobs by 2028, moving up its original target by two years and doubling its efforts to generate employment opportunities.
BPA has established the "2024 Busan Port Job Creation Plan," resetting its mid- to long-term job creation target in consideration of the urgent need to expand local employment, as well as the conditions and economic situation of Busan Port.
To achieve this goal ahead of schedule, BPA plans to minimize job vacancies in the public sector by managing staffing levels through flexible recruitment and hiring youth interns equivalent to about 10% of its regular workforce.
In the private sector, BPA will create stable jobs by directly and indirectly supporting the growth of private companies through the attraction and opening of new hinterland logistics complexes, regulatory easing, and port construction and maintenance.
BPA will also continue to promote job creation through co-prosperity projects such as smart factory establishment, port-related specialized businesses, and vacation support programs. By joining forces with the private and public sectors, BPA aims to discover outstanding local startups, SMEs, venture companies, and social enterprises to help stabilize and increase employment opportunities.
Last year, Busan Port Authority created 4,521 jobs in both the public and private sectors, achieving a cumulative total of 15,000 jobs since 2020.
Among these, 25 youth interns were hired last year, providing opportunities to strengthen their employability, and BPA has been making various efforts to support youth employment, such as producing and distributing employment guidebooks.
Additionally, BPA created 4,486 private sector jobs last year by attracting outstanding companies to the hinterland logistics complex and opening new port facilities and terminals.
Kang Junseok, President of BPA, stated, "Busan Port is a large-scale industrial site where numerous industries come together. We will implement a variety of support policies to ensure that diverse jobs are created and established throughout Busan Port, and together, we will build the future of Busan Port."
