Democratic Party Cheonan City Councilor: "Councilor Accused of Sexual Harassment Should Resign"

"Sexual Harassment Remarks Are Appalling... Chairperson Kim Haenggeum Must Take Measures to Prevent Recurrence"

Democratic Party-affiliated Cheonan city council members are holding a press conference on the 16th.

Cheonan City Council members from the Democratic Party of Korea have called for the resignation of a People Power Party city council member recently accused of sexual harassment, and urged Chairperson Kim Haenggeum to take follow-up measures.

On the 16th, Democratic Party council members held a press conference at the Cheonan City Hall briefing room, raising their voices in criticism against Council Member A.

They stated, "As fellow members of the 9th Cheonan City Council, we are appalled by Council Member A's repeated sexually harassing remarks toward young female public officials," and added, "We will closely monitor the situation to ensure not only that the victimized female staff member can return to her normal life as soon as possible, but also that no further harm, such as personnel disadvantages or secondary victimization, occurs."

Criticism against Chairperson Kim Haenggeum continued.

According to the public officials' union, Chairperson Kim allegedly committed secondary victimization during a meeting with the victim by saying things such as, "Face Council Member A directly," and, "I will arrange a transfer for you in two months. Can you wait until then?"

The Democratic Party council members said, "The victim requested a transfer from Chairperson Kim Haenggeum, citing a clearer hierarchical relationship in the latter half of the council's term, but her request was denied," and pointed out, "We question whether Chairperson Kim's promise of 'boosting staff morale through inclusive leadership, dialogue, and fair and transparent personnel management' is nothing more than empty words."

They went on to demand the immediate resignation of Council Member A and the establishment of measures to prevent sexual harassment and assault by Chairperson Kim Haenggeum.

Meanwhile, Council Member A has completely denied the allegations of sexual harassment and is scheduled to announce an official statement on the 17th.
