Inspection of New Income Crop Apple Jujube Development and Progress of Jigok Agricultural Cooperative's Agricultural Product Distribution Center
Jin Byungyoung, the governor of Hamyang County in Gyeongnam, has been strengthening on-site administration for the 8th popularly elected county government by visiting major business sites every week since last March, seeking prompt solutions through communication with residents.
In line with this, Governor Jin visited the apple and jujube farm in Pyeongchon-ri, Jigok-myeon (head of the Jigok Apple and Jujube Growers’ Group, Song Yunseop) and the construction site of the Jigok Agricultural Cooperative Produce Distribution Center to check the progress of the projects and listen to the difficulties faced by farmers, thereby promoting field-oriented administration.
County Governor Jin Byungyoung is conducting an on-site inspection, listening to the difficulties faced by farmers.
Hamyang County is making efforts to discover and foster new income crops in response to ongoing climate change and agricultural diversification, and currently, 22 farms are cultivating apples and jujubes over 3.4 hectares.
Apples and jujubes can be harvested in the same year they are planted, and since the cultivation method is not difficult, they are suitable for returning farmers and elderly farmers. Due to their high economic value, the county plans to further expand their cultivation in the future.
In addition, the Jigok Agricultural Cooperative Produce Distribution Center support project was selected as a project recipient in 2022 through a public contest for the construction of a central produce distribution center (APC) in the central region. It is being carried out as a two-year project from 2023 to 2024, with completion targeted for October this year.
Currently, the support project for the produce distribution center is underway at the project site (684-4 Changpyeong-ri, Jigok-myeon, and four other lots), involving construction of the center (building area 2,883.35 square meters) and the installation of smart sorting line facilities.
On this day, Governor Jin stated, “In the rapidly changing agricultural environment, we plan to focus more on fostering new income crops to increase farm income,” and added, “Please do your best to strengthen the competitiveness of distribution at the production site by establishing an automated system through the construction of a smart distribution center.”
