KOCCA 'K-Story & Comics in America'
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency will hold 'K-Story & Comics in America' in Los Angeles (LA), USA, from the 24th to the 28th. It is a global event for comics and webtoons, which have rapidly emerged as core intellectual property (IP) of K-content.
This year, the event will be held in a combined format of B2B (business-to-business) and B2C (business-to-consumer), unlike previous years which were solely B2B. The aim is to encourage local attendees to experience comics and webtoons, thereby increasing awareness and securing a readership base.
The B2B event will take place at the AC Hotel in downtown LA. Fourteen comics and webtoon companies, including DCCENT, Rockin Korea, Storywiz, Woongjin Thinkbig, and Kakao Entertainment, will participate and showcase fifty works. The Korea Creative Content Agency will support pre-consultations for business matching with buyers, provide consultation spaces, sample books, and promotional materials. A pitching session attended by about eighty buyers and industry officials will also be held. An agency official explained, "It will be an opportunity for IP expansion businesses such as publishing, broadcasting, animation, licensing, and gaming."
The B2C event will be held in conjunction with the K-pop festival 'KCON LA 2024' at the LA Convention Center. A Korean joint pavilion will be set up, offering various interactive experiences such as a digital library zone and moving AR photocards. IP expansion content such as 'Remarriage & Desires', 'Solo Leveling', and 'Lookism' will also be introduced.
