Proposal for Expanding the Scope of Participating Businesses and More
Naver announced on the 16th that it held the 6th regular meeting of the 'Naver User Protection and Self-Regulation Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Naver Self-Regulation Committee).' At this meeting, the company introduced its representative win-win program, 'Project Kkot,' shared its achievements so far, and discussed ways to expand it.
The regular meeting was attended by all members of the Naver Self-Regulation Committee, including Kwon Heon-yeong, professor at Korea University Graduate School of Information Security and chairman of the committee, as well as Shin Ji-man, leader of the Naver Project Kkot Secretariat, and Son Ji-yoon, head of policy strategy.
Leader Shin Ji-man introduced 'Project Kkot,' which Naver has been conducting since 2016 to support the digital transformation and business growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and creators. Naver has continuously provided various supports such as online business know-how, space support, and financial services to SMEs and creators. Since 2022, a dedicated organization has been newly established to expand the program as 'Project Kkot 2.0.' Through Project Kkot 2.0, the goal is to discover and support SMEs capable of growing into brands and to build a competitive ecosystem.
The Naver Self-Regulation Committee suggested that ▲to increase diversity, the scope of participants in 'Project Kkot' should be expanded to include SMEs and creators from various fields beyond e-commerce, and ▲consumers and users should also actively participate in 'Project Kkot' to create synergy. They also proposed that 'Project Kkot' needs to be better known from the perspective of corporate social responsibility and win-win cooperation.
Naver responded to the committee’s suggestions by stating that ▲under the core value of promoting sustainable growth for various SMEs and creators, they are internally continuing to review ways to expand the target audience to include video creators and others, and ▲they plan to actively explore ways to increase consumer participation by establishing channels to receive user feedback across various services.
Chairman Kwon said, "There is a need to evaluate and publicize Naver’s win-win and self-regulation efforts more objectively," adding, "We will strive to actively promote Naver’s win-win activities and differentiated self-regulation efforts by securing various domestic and international case data."
Meanwhile, since its launch in September 2023, the Naver Self-Regulation Committee has steadily held six meetings. They have recommended measures to minimize counterfeit damage, verification of the 'dark pattern checklist' at the stage of new service launches, improvements to the shopping search service algorithm, and the need to upgrade 'Naver Data Lab.' At the 5th meeting, discussions were held on Naver’s responsibility for a safe artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem, and opinions were presented on the need for continuous investment and related workforce development to enhance domestic AI competitiveness.
