"Protect Citizens' Lives" ... Changwon Special City Launches Full-Scale Response to Heatwave for a Safe Summer

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is implementing a comprehensive heatwave response plan to minimize damage to citizens' lives and property, as unusually high temperatures are expected again this year due to global warming and abnormal climate conditions.

"Protect Citizens' Lives" ... Changwon Special City Launches Full-Scale Response to Heatwave for a Safe Summer Changwon Special City Hall.

During the heatwave response period from May 20 to September 30, the city is operating a Heatwave Response Task Force Team composed of 16 departments, including the General Situation Team, Human Casualty Prevention Team, and Property Damage Prevention Team, to conduct focused management in each area.

The city operates 313 shade canopies at crosswalks and 952 cooling shelters as heat mitigation facilities. During heatwave advisories, they send out SMS alerts to inform citizens of the advisories and promote safety guidelines and precautions to prevent damage.

As part of the practical heatwave measures, field workers are encouraged to follow the three main rules for preventing heat-related illnesses (water, shade, rest), and the Labor Safety Monitoring Team conducts on-site guidance and inspections. To protect the health of vulnerable groups, the city checks on them through visits and phone calls, and operates the 119 Heatwave Emergency Response Team to respond quickly to heat-related illnesses.

To prevent damage in the agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors, the Agricultural Disaster Countermeasure Office provides farmers with behavioral guidelines through on-site monitoring, supports livestock farmers with livestock disaster insurance and facility improvements, and supplies marine observation information to fishers to prevent damage to aquaculture facilities and marine life.

Additionally, the city monitors the power supply situation and strengthens cooperation with related agencies to ensure a prompt response in case of a disaster.

Jung Yungyu, Disaster Response Officer, stated, "As the number of heatwave days increases every year, we will respond comprehensively to protect citizens' lives and property from disasters. We will pay close attention to ensure that vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly are not affected, and do our utmost in heatwave response and damage prevention so that citizens can have a safe summer."
