Cyber Police to Identify Suspect by Tracing IP
Strengthening Protective Measures in Preparation for Contingencies
Amid the recent shooting of U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump, a post threatening to terrorize Han Dong-hoon, the People Power Party's candidate for party leader, was uploaded online, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
On the 15th, the Chungbuk Provincial Police Agency explained that they received a 112 report stating that a post titled "Han Dong-hoon is coming with a knife" was uploaded on an online internet community. The poster wrote at 10:50 a.m. on the internet community, along with a photo of candidates Han Dong-hoon and Won Hee-ryong together, "Stay still," and "I am coming for revenge with eggs and a knife."
After confirming the post, the Chungbuk Cyber Crime Investigation Unit plans to track the IP address to identify the suspect. A police official said, "A resident living in Chungbuk saw the post and reported it to the police agency." The police are reportedly taking protective measures, such as deploying patrol cars around Han’s residence in preparation for any possible situation.
Meanwhile, the world is on high alert for political terrorism following the shooting incident involving candidate Trump. Especially Japan, which has experienced terrorism against former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and even Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, has heightened its vigilance. On the 15th, Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun reported that the shooting of Trump shocked the Japanese political world, with voices in the political sphere calling for securing election safety. The media also reported that the Japanese National Police Agency has ordered increased vigilance regarding politicians’ street speeches following the Trump shooting incident.
