Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 16th that it will provide child meal support to about 1,300 vulnerable children in the district during the summer vacation period. This is to address the meal gap caused by the suspension of school meals, and the meal support period is from the 19th of this month to the 23rd of next month.
The child meal support targets about 1,300 children under the age of 18 whose household income is below 60% of the median income and who are at risk of missing meals at home due to reasons such as absence of guardians or health issues. Eligible children can receive meals by using the Kkum Namu Card at general restaurants (child meal franchise stores), through home-cooked lunchbox delivery, or group meals at local children's centers.
Reflecting the high dining-out prices, the district raised the meal unit price per meal from 8,000 KRW to 9,000 KRW starting February. Accordingly, the daily limit amount was also increased to 27,000 KRW.
Meanwhile, even after the intensive application period (June 24 to July 5) that ended on the 5th, the district will continuously accept applications to actively discover vulnerable children in blind spots. To apply, submit the child meal application documents by visiting the local community service center or through the ‘Bokjiro’ website.
Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, “We will actively identify and support children at risk of missing meals during the summer vacation so that no child goes hungry,” and added, “We will continue to make efforts to ensure there is no shortage in supporting children who miss meals.”
