Preparation for Wind and Flood Damage... Completion of Maintenance for 91 Old Signs from June
Priority Maintenance for Ownerless Signs at Risk of Falling, Closed, Suspended, or Relocated
Illegal Signs Violating Display Methods Also Maintained... Continuous Improvement of Urban Landscape
Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced on the 16th that it has repaired old or ownerless hazardous signboards to prevent signboard collapse accidents caused by the rainy season and typhoons.
In particular, the district explained that this year’s rainy season is characterized by nocturnal heavy rain and strong winds, so it took preemptive maintenance measures considering residents' safety.
The maintenance prioritized ▲ old and deteriorated signboards at risk of falling ▲ signboards that have been left unattended for a long time due to business closure, suspension, relocation, etc., causing corrosion or damage.
Earlier, the district conducted a preliminary survey in April and obtained consent for signboard maintenance from store owners, building owners, and managers, selecting the final maintenance targets in June.
As of July, maintenance has been completed on a total of 91 signboards, including 18 in Pungnap-dong, 16 in Seokchon-dong, and 17 in Munjeong-dong. Mainly in market and commercial areas with high risk of falling, 40 wall-mounted signboards, 42 projecting signboards, and 9 pole-mounted signboards were removed.
Along with this, the district plans to carry out additional maintenance projects in the second half of the year to improve the urban landscape by repairing illegal signboards that violate display methods.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “Thorough pre-inspection and preparation are the only answers to protect residents’ safety from increasing natural disasters,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that residents can spend the summer safely in a pleasant environment through continuous signboard maintenance.”
