According to market research firm IDC on the 15th, Samsung Electronics' smartphone shipments in the second quarter amounted to 53.9 million units. Its global market share was 18.9%. Apple's shipments were 45.2 million units, accounting for a market share of 15.8%.

Samsung Electronics secured first place for two consecutive quarters, following the previous quarter. Samsung's shipments in the first quarter were 60.1 million units, with a market share of 20.8%. Apple recorded shipments of 50.1 million units (17.3%).

IDC attributed Samsung's retention of the top market share to the launch of its AI smartphones, the Galaxy S24 series, and its Galaxy AI strategy earlier this year.

Apple's strategy of lowering the selling price of its products in China to boost sales volume was analyzed to have influenced its defense of market share.

Following Samsung Electronics and Apple were Xiaomi (14.8%), Vivo (9.1%), and Oppo (9.0%), respectively.

Global smartphone shipments in the second quarter of this year reached 285.4 million units, showing a 6.5% growth compared to the same period last year.
