Linz Street Festival Performance
Special Invitation to Vienna K-POP Festival as well
Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 15th that it has dispatched the Gwangyang Citizen Arts Performance Group to Austria to participate in the 'Vienna K-POP Festival' and the '2024 Linz Street Festival' performances.
The performance group, consisting of a K-POP dance team (9 members) and 2 administrative officials, will carry out a total 6-night, 8-day schedule from July 15 to 22 in Vienna and Linz, Austria.
The first schedule is participation in the special performance of the "Vienna K-POP Festival" on the 16th. By special invitation from the Korean Cultural Center in Austria (Director Lim Jin-hong), the Gwangyang Citizen Arts Performance Group is set to perform jointly with local artists.
After the schedule in Vienna, the performance group will immediately move to Linz, where from the 18th to the 20th they will showcase K-POP dance performances for three days at the "2024 Linz Street Festival."
The "Linz Street Festival," held annually in July, is one of Europe's largest street art festivals attracting 200,000 visitors each year. It is a world-class stage where about 100 teams perform various genres of art including dance, music, aerial arts, fire shows, and comedy.
This year, over 800 teams worldwide submitted applications, and the Linz Festival Organizing Committee selected 108 teams from 27 countries.
Two teams from South Korea earned the right to perform, and among them is the K-POP dance team (Brainstorm & ILLBROFAM) selected through Gwangyang City's own recruitment process.
During the "2024 Linz Street Festival," the Gwangyang Citizen Arts Performance Group will perform a total of 9 times (3 times a day). Among these, one parade performance is a joint performance involving all participating teams, while the others are solo performances where teams choose the festival location and time themselves, presenting a unique style of production.
Jiyun Sung, Director of the Steel Port Division, said, "We are proud that the Gwangyang City Arts Performance Group was selected as a performance team for Europe’s largest street festival after fierce competition," and added, "We hope they will not only promote national prestige with their splendid K-POP dance performances but also widely publicize the charm of Gwangyang City, which is leading the K-POP festival."
Meanwhile, since signing an international sister city agreement with Linz in 1991, Gwangyang City has maintained a good relationship through steady exchanges in various fields.
Examples include the visit of the Austrian Linz delegation to Gwangyang City in 2022 and last year, when Gwangyang Mayor Jeong In-hwa reciprocated with a visit to Linz, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a practical exchange platform, thereby opening a new era of international exchange between sister cities.
