On the 15th, the Ulsan Southern Police Station announced that after investigating the 75 million won in 50,000 won bills found consecutively earlier this month, they identified an 80-year-old man, Mr. A, residing in Ulsan as the owner of the cash and plan to return it to him.

Previously, on the 4th, a security guard at an apartment in Nam-gu, Ulsan, discovered 50 million won in cash inside a black plastic bag placed in a flowerbed during a patrol. Two days later, a sanitation worker found 25 million won in cash inside a plastic paper bag in the same apartment’s flowerbed and reported it to the police. The distance between the two discovery locations was only about 1 meter.

All the discovered cash was in 50,000 won bills, bundled in stacks of 100 bills each. The police identified the bank where the money was withdrawn by securing the bank deposit date of "March 26" and the official seal of the person in charge printed on the bands binding the cash bundles. Subsequently, during an investigation of people who withdrew large sums of cash, Mr. A was the only person whose withdrawal reason and usage were unconfirmed, leading the police to consider him the likely owner and contact him. It was also reported that CCTV around the apartment captured Mr. A wandering near the flowerbed wearing the same clothes as when he withdrew the money.

During the police investigation, Mr. A stated, "I don’t know the exact date, but I left the money in the apartment flowerbed." The source of the cash was confirmed to be redevelopment compensation. However, Mr. A did not mention the reason for hiding the money.

The police believe there is no connection to any crime and plan to return the entire amount of cash to Mr. A. A police official said, "It took time to verify because Mr. A could not remember most of the amount, date, or place," adding, "Although there is a risk of recurrence, currently there is no family contact, so we plan to return the cash to Mr. A."

Meanwhile, if a person who finds lost cash reports it to the police or related institutions and helps find the original owner, they can receive a reward. The reward is typically 5-20% of the value of the item, and if the owner does not appear within six months, the finder can acquire ownership of the item.
