Setting 'Ban-nap Bulga Guyeok' for Child Protection Zones
KakaoTalk Open Chat Room Also Opened to Resolve Illegal Parking Complaints
From now on, in Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do, the speed limit for personal mobility devices (PM) such as electric kickboards and electric bicycles will be lowered from 25 km/h to 20 km/h.
On the 15th, Pyeongtaek City announced that it will implement the 'Safety Management Practice Plan' this month, which was prepared in consultation with six PM rental operators in the area to prevent safety accidents caused by illegal parking and speeding of PMs.
This measure by the city comes as shared electric bicycles and electric kickboards have become widespread, with about 7,800 units operating as of July, but related laws have not yet been enacted, resulting in weak enforcement and regulatory measures and a sharp increase in safety accidents.
First, the city will lower the speed limit of PMs, currently set at 25 km/h, to 20 km/h. Along with this, to prevent accident risks and pedestrian inconvenience caused by unauthorized PM parking, a 'PM No-Return Zone' will also be established. The no-return zones include 128 child protection zones, Galpyeong Overpass, and Godeok Samsung-ro, among others. In these areas, PMs cannot be placed or returned.
The city has also opened an open chat room for reporting illegal PM parking. Citizens can handle complaints about illegally parked electric kickboards and shared electric bicycles through the KakaoTalk open chat room. To use this service, search for 'Pyeongtaek-si Electric Kickboard' in the KakaoTalk open chat room or scan the QR code on the illegal parking report promotional material attached to the device.
Jung Jang-seon, mayor of Pyeongtaek City, stated, "We will continue to do our best to reduce safety blind spots that arise according to new environments."
