Crime Scene Captured on CCTV
Suspect Not Identified, Case Remains Unsolved for Years
Arrested After 16 Years Following Reinvestigation
The prime suspect in the so-called 'Supermarket Owner Murder Case' that occurred in 2008 in Siheung-si, Gyeonggi Province, was apprehended by the police after 16 years.
On the 15th, YTN reported, "The Siheung Police Station in Gyeonggi arrested a man in his 40s, identified as A, on charges including murder, at his residence in Gyeongnam, and is currently transporting him." They did not disclose specific details about the arrest circumstances, citing ongoing investigations.
A is suspected of breaking into a supermarket in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung-si, around 4 a.m. on December 9, 2008, killing the owner B (then in his 40s) with a weapon, and fleeing after stealing valuables.
The crime was fully recorded on the store's closed-circuit television (CCTV). However, at the time, the police had difficulty identifying the suspect, leaving the case unsolved for a long time. Subsequently, the violent crime cold case task force repeatedly reinvestigated the case, even distributing wanted posters, and finally apprehended the prime suspect after 16 years.
A police official stated, "We cannot disclose anything other than the fact that A has been arrested and is being transported," adding, "We plan to clarify the specific charges through investigation."
