"Felt Ignored"... Man Who Killed Acquaintance at Karaoke Claims 'Diminished Mental Capacity' Seobu District Court

At the first hearing held on the 12th at the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 11 (Presiding Judge Bae Seong-jung), Mr. A stated, "I admit the prosecutor's charges, but I was intoxicated and in a state of mental incapacity or diminished mental capacity at the time." Mr. A's defense attorney submitted a receipt as evidence, adding, "This proves that he drank a lot at that time."

On the other hand, the prosecution believes that Mr. A committed the crime because he felt disrespected by the victim. CCTV footage submitted as evidence by the prosecution reportedly shows Mr. A seemingly watching the victim's movements as the victim left the karaoke room.

Mr. A, a day laborer at a paint factory, is accused of wielding a weapon during an argument with an acquaintance at a karaoke room in Mapo-gu around 11:40 p.m. on May 1. The victim sustained abdominal injuries and was taken to the hospital but ultimately died.

On the day of the incident, the police arrested Mr. A on the spot while he was wandering near the karaoke room and sent him to detention on May 10.
