'Arson in Dongdaemun Apartment Due to Personal Despair... Man in His 30s Urgently Arrested'

A man in his 30s who set fire to an apartment in Jangan-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, was arrested by the police.

On the 15th, the Dongdaemun Police Station in Seoul announced that they had urgently arrested Hwang Mo on charges of arson of an occupied building.

Hwang is accused of setting fire to clothing with a lighter on the 9th floor of a 21-story apartment in Jangan-dong at around 8:09 p.m. the previous day.

At the time, Hwang was intoxicated and is believed to have committed the crime due to despair over his personal situation.

The fire was extinguished within an hour. A total of 132 residents evacuated, and one person was taken to the hospital after inhaling smoke.

A police official stated, “We are investigating the specific circumstances of the incident and plan to request an arrest warrant within today.”
