Utilizing 400 Million Won Secured from Seoul City Public Project, 9 Additional Sites to Be Established in the Second Half
Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) will expand the installation of smart poles to enhance safety in school zones.
The district plans to use the 400 million KRW budget secured after being selected in March for the 'Seoul Integrated Safety Smart Pole Construction Contest Project' to install additional smart poles in nine school zones within the second half of this year.
A 'smart pole' is an urban infrastructure that integrates smart technology into existing streetlight poles and traffic signal poles, and can be equipped with functions such as ▲public Wi-Fi ▲CCTV ▲smart crosswalks ▲emergency bells depending on its purpose.
An official from the district explained the advantages of smart poles, saying, "Not only do they strengthen safety on school routes, but by combining previously separate facilities into one, they improve the cityscape and reduce installation costs."
The district plans to strengthen safety on school routes by adding nine more smart poles in the second half of the year to the 42 already installed.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, "I believe that the smart poles installed in school zones will greatly help prevent traffic accidents and create safe school routes," and added, "We will apply various smart technologies to district administration to build a safe and pleasant city."
