Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will operate two special summer safety education programs at the Songpa Safety Experience Education Center from July to August, the peak summer vacation season, to help children enjoy outdoor activities safely.
The summer vacation period is a time when water-related safety accidents, such as severe weather and water emergencies, occur frequently. To ensure that children on summer break can protect themselves in real-life situations and enjoy their vacation safely, the district has established ▲Monsoon Season Safety Education ▲Survival Swimming Education Programs.
First, on July 25-26, the Monsoon Season Safety Education will be held on the first floor of the Disaster Safety Hall at the education center. This program targets children aged 6 to elementary school students and includes experiential training to respond to water bombs. Children will experience realistic simulations of typhoon conditions such as heavy rain and strong winds and learn how to handle dangerous situations.
With the advantage of learning seasonal safety “tips” through fun experiences in a specialized safety education facility, the program has been so popular that it was fully booked shortly after applications opened in July.
Additionally, the district supports children by allowing them to take home the transparent umbrellas used during the experience to encourage continued safety practice in daily life after the education.
Following this, the Survival Swimming Education program will be conducted from August 5 to 16 for children aged 7 to elementary school students to prepare for emergencies during water play. In an outdoor pool set up at the education center, professional instructors will teach ▲survival swimming techniques (such as leaf floating and shrimp back floating), ▲postures to maintain body temperature in water, and ▲emergency rescue methods for drowning victims.
The program consists of three 90-minute sessions per day. Reservations can be made through the Songpa Safety Experience Education Center website. Applications are accepted from July 22 to August 13 on a first-come, first-served basis, and participation is free of charge. For group reservations and more detailed information, please refer to the official website of the Songpa Safety Experience Education Center.
The district expects that these safety education programs in July and August will proactively prevent summer safety accidents by enhancing participating children’s basic safety awareness, as well as their ability to respond to various disaster situations and maintain vigilance.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “This experiential program was created so that children, a safety-vulnerable group, can have an exciting and safe summer vacation without accidents during the peak vacation season.” He added, “We will continue to plan various seasonal safety programs and do our best to create a city safe from disasters.”
