Im Sungjae's Disappointing 4th Place... McIntyre's Dramatic Comeback Win on 18th Hole Im Sung-jae

On the 14th (local time), at the Renaissance Club (Par 70, 7,237 yards) in North Berwick, Scotland, Im finished the 4th round of the Genesis Scottish Open (total prize money $9 million), co-hosted by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour (formerly European Tour), with 1-under-par, tying for 4th place (14-under-par 266). This marks his sixth ‘Top 10’ finish this year, following a tie for 3rd at last month’s Travelers Championship.

Im Sung-jae showed somewhat inconsistent play. Starting the round tied for 4th place, 4 strokes behind the leader, he recorded 4 birdies and 3 bogeys. In the front nine, he exchanged 2 birdies for 2 bogeys, failing to reduce his score. His birdie on the 14th hole (Par 3) was immediately offset by a bogey on the 15th hole (Par 4). Fortunately, he secured a birdie on the final 18th hole (Par 4) to join the under-par group. His green in regulation rate of 83.33% (tied 12th) was impressive, but his putting average on greens in regulation was a disappointing 1.93 putts. Im Sung-jae will compete in The Open, the final major of the 2024 season, held over four days starting on the 18th at Royal Troon in Scotland.

Local favorite Robert MacIntyre (Scotland) clinched a dramatic come-from-behind victory with a birdie on the 18th hole, finishing at 18-under-par 262. After losing a stroke on 13 holes and falling behind in the race, he changed momentum with a birdie on the 14th hole, then turned the tide with an eagle on the 16th hole (Par 5) and a birdie on the 18th hole. This is his second career win following last month’s RBC Canadian Open, with a winner’s prize of $1,575,000 (approximately 2.2 billion KRW). Adam Scott (Australia) performed well, finishing 2nd at 17-under-par 263, but Ludwig Aberg (Sweden), who led the previous day, struggled with a 3-over-par round and dropped to a tie for 4th.

World No. 2 and last year’s champion of this tournament, Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), added 2-under-par to finish tied for 4th. This marks his sixth ‘Top 10’ finish this year, including two wins. From Korea, Kim Joo-hyung improved by 6 strokes, soaring 29 places from the previous day to tie for 15th at 12-under-par 268. Kim Si-woo finished tied for 26th at 10-under-par 270, and Lee Jeong-hwan ended the tournament tied for 46th at 7-under-par 273.
