The company’s self-developed low-profile AMR recently obtained the 'ISO 3691-4' certification from DNV, a global testing and certification specialist. This certification is an international safety standard set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It requires meeting verification criteria for redundant control functions that reduce risks and mechanical safety design. In May, it was approved as a key standard meeting the 'Machinery Directive regulations that autonomous mobile robots must comply with' in Europe, making it an essential safety certification for exports to Europe. LG Electronics explained that this is the first time a Korean company has obtained this certification from a global certification body.

AMRs are next-generation logistics robots that have evolved beyond Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), which move along fixed routes, by autonomously finding and navigating their own paths. The safety controller applied to the robot monitors signals sent from sensors in real time, detects risks, and ensures the robot safely decelerates and stops.

The safety controller used for this certification is composed of a single module and can be applied to various robots, including industrial logistics robots and service robots. It also meets the functional safety requirements demanded by UL, a representative certification standard in North America.

LG Electronics plans to accelerate its robot and smart factory businesses by leveraging this certification. The company intends to expand the application of AMR safety-related design and verification technologies secured through the ISO 3691-4 certification to industrial and commercial robot businesses, contributing to enhancing product safety reliability and competitiveness.

Baek Seung-min, head of the Robot Advanced Research Center and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at LG Electronics, said, "We will continue to secure design and certification solutions to strengthen the safety reliability of robots and lead the safety technology field of autonomous mobile robots."
