On the morning of the 12th, the city of Busan signed a memorandum of understanding at the Westin Chosun Busan for the joint implementation of the “Regional Nuclear Industry-Based Energy Technology Shared University” project, with participation from four Yeongnam region cities and provinces (Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, and Gyeongbuk).
The signatory institutions are: ▲Busan City, Pusan National University, Dong-Eui University, Busan Technopark ▲Ulsan City, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), Ulsan Technopark ▲Gyeongnam Province, Gyeongsang National University, Inje University, Gyeongnam Technopark ▲Gyeongbuk Province, Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Handong Global University, Gyeongbuk Technopark, making a total of 15 institutions.
The purpose of this agreement is to establish a collaborative system among local governments, industries, universities, and research institutes to jointly implement the Regional Nuclear Industry-Based Energy Technology Shared University project. Through this agreement, the institutions plan to strengthen inter-organizational cooperation and jointly foster highly skilled nuclear experts who will settle in the region.
Specifically, they will cooperate in ▲training highly skilled personnel covering the entire nuclear cycle ▲creating customized employment for local nuclear companies (institutions) through cooperation among local governments, industries, universities, and research institutes ▲establishing a wide-area shared platform for such collaboration.
In particular, not only representatives from the signing institutions but also representatives from 38 partner companies (institutions) attended the signing ceremony. The event included ▲the project launch ceremony ▲a business cooperation agreement with partner companies ▲an introduction to the Energy Technology Shared University project ▲an introduction to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's energy workforce development project.
The “Regional Nuclear Industry-Based Energy Technology Shared University” project is a joint initiative by the four Yeongnam region cities and provinces (Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, and Gyeongbuk) to foster highly skilled personnel who will lead innovation in nuclear power?a key energy source for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050?and to establish the Yeongnam region as a hub for the nuclear industry and R&D.
The four Yeongnam region cities and provinces, including the city, were selected for this project in April. Over the next six years, a total of 22.1 billion KRW will be invested?including 17 billion KRW in national funding and local government contributions?to train highly skilled personnel throughout the entire nuclear cycle.
