On the 11th, the Defense Industry Infringement Response Council jointly held the "1st Colloquium on Defense Technology Protection and National Security" with the Chung-Ang University Industrial Security Research Institute at Chung-Ang University. A colloquium refers to a discussion format where presenters and participants freely debate a specific topic.
The Defense Industry Infringement Response Council is a public-private cooperative organization formed under the leadership of the National Intelligence Service to respond to the increasing risks of defense technology leakage. Major domestic defense companies such as Hyundai Rotem, Hanwha Aerospace, and LIG Nex1, as well as government agencies including the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, participate. Chung-Ang University fosters security experts mainly through its Department of Industrial Security and Graduate School of Convergence Security.
At the 1st colloquium, cases of companies possessing key national technologies with extensive experience in exports and overseas local production were shared, and ways to apply these to the defense industry were discussed. Attorney Lim Hyung-joo of Yulchon LLC presented on "Key Contract Cases in Overseas Local Production," and Professor Jang Hang-bae of Chung-Ang University presented on "Security Technology Protection Guidelines for Overseas Local Business Sites." This was followed by a Q&A and discussion between the speakers and attendees.
The Defense Industry Infringement Response Council and Chung-Ang University Industrial Security Research Institute agreed on the need for more systematic protection of domestic defense industry technologies and decided to hold colloquiums regularly. They also plan to cooperate by regularly holding joint colloquiums on topics such as the introduction of defense cloud and the U.S. Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) system to protect defense technology.
A representative of the Defense Industry Infringement Response Council said, "We hope that the colloquium held this time will be the first step for the public, private, and academic sectors to synergize in strengthening defense technology protection capabilities," adding, "We will continue to seek advanced defense technology protection measures through ongoing cooperation with academia."
