Samsung SDI is establishing a new 'Department of Battery Engineering' in collaboration with Sungkyunkwan University to cultivate specialized personnel in the battery field.

On the 11th, Samsung SDI announced on the 12th that it held a 'Department of Battery Engineering Establishment Agreement Ceremony' with Sungkyunkwan University at the Natural Science Campus of Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.
The ceremony was attended by key figures from both sides, including Yoo Ji-beom, President of Sungkyunkwan University, Yoon Won-seop, Head Professor of the Department of Battery Engineering, Kim Ji-man, Dean of the College of Natural Sciences, as well as Choi Yoon-ho, CEO of Samsung SDI, Kim Yoon-chang, Head of SDI Research Institute (Vice President), and Ahn Jae-woo, Head of the People Team (Vice President).
The Department of Battery Engineering will operate as a contract department linked to recruitment, offering a four-year bachelor's degree program within the College of Engineering. Starting from 2026, it plans to select about 30 freshmen annually for 10 years. Customized education will be provided covering everything from battery materials to cells, modules, and packs, and graduates of this department will be given the benefit of being able to join Samsung SDI.
The establishment of the Department of Battery Engineering aims to nurture specialized personnel who will lead the rapidly growing battery sector centered on the global electric vehicle market and to participate in cultivating talent for the nation's core strategic industries.
Choi Yoon-ho, CEO of Samsung SDI, said, "Securing and nurturing outstanding talent is Samsung SDI's future competitiveness," adding, "Through the agreement with Sungkyunkwan University, we will secure key talents who can lead the battery market and further strengthen our ultra-competitive technological edge as a top global company."
Yoo Ji-beom, President of Sungkyunkwan University, stated, "Amid the growing importance of battery technology, Sungkyunkwan University and Samsung SDI will strive for continuous development based on mutual trust and cooperation."
Meanwhile, since 2021, Samsung SDI has been operating battery talent development programs with POSTECH, Seoul National University, KAIST, Hanyang University, Sungkyunkwan University, and UNIST, and plans to expand contract departments for battery studies in the future.
