The 290-meter barrier-free deck trail at Iljasan Herb Astronomical Park in Dunchon-dong, Gangdong-gu, the only herb colony in Seoul, has been created and opened to residents.
Herb Astronomical Park is the only park in Seoul specializing in about 190 species of herb plants, where visitors can enjoy the fragrant herb scents and seasonal changing landscapes, as well as various attractions such as a sculpture park and observation deck. Participatory experience programs themed around herbs, such as the "Five Senses Satisfaction Herb Experience," are also operated, attracting a wide range of users from adults to children.
The district has removed the steep entrance paths and wooden stairs that made access difficult for wheelchair users and the elderly, and created a gently sloping barrier-free deck trail so that everyone can safely and conveniently use Herb Astronomical Park, a representative healing spot in Gangdong-gu.
The newly created barrier-free deck trail allows pedestrians to leisurely ascend and descend the gentle slopes while enjoying the scents and views of various herbs and trees leading up to the summit. Night lighting has also been installed to ensure safe use after sunset.
Lee Hyun-sam, head of the Green City Division of Gangdong-gu, stated, "We plan to operate Herb Astronomical Park, a healing space in the city, as a companion garden where all, including the mobility-impaired, can enjoy the value and benefits of nature."
