According to industry sources on the 12th, CEO Jo met with CEO Amon at the LG Twin Towers in Yeouido, Seoul, the previous afternoon to share a blueprint for AI collaboration between the two companies. Key LG Electronics executives, including Kim Byung-hoon, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and Lee Sam-soo, Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), were also present. It is reported that the two CEOs also had dinner together.

During the meeting, the two CEOs focused on discussing collaboration plans related to 'Athom,' a leading smart home platform company recently acquired by LG Electronics.

LG Electronics has been developing its business based on the vision of evolving empathy intelligence into generative AI-based smart home services and expanding these beyond the home to mobility and online spaces.

The recent acquisition of Athom was also made with the goal of extending the communication experience with generative AI not only to homes but also to commercial spaces, mobility, and various other environments.

LG Electronics is expected to make Qualcomm, which develops wireless communication and chipsets, a key partner to establish a stable semiconductor supply chain and to develop dedicated chips for services linked with Athom.

CEO Jo Joo-wan stated, "LG Electronics is evolving into an intelligent space solution company that connects and expands experiences across various spaces where customers live. We will continue to make strategic investments to transform our business paradigm, such as entering platform-based home appliance services and solutions like the webOS advertising platform and AI home."

The two CEOs also exchanged views on on-device AI. On-device AI is a technology that enables generative AI models to operate directly on devices such as smartphones and laptops without cloud connectivity.

In particular, since LG Electronics recently established an organization under the CTO division to oversee the on-device AI business strategy, it is likely that ways to create synergy with Qualcomm in this area were discussed.

LG Electronics has maintained a collaborative relationship with Qualcomm since its mobile business (MC Business Division) days. Currently, the cooperation areas have expanded to include IT devices such as audio products and automotive electronics. Qualcomm supplies chips for vehicle telematics and infotainment to LG Electronics' VS Business Division, which handles automotive electronics.
