Lee Seong-yoon, Democratic Party Supreme Council Candidate, "Nomination of Kang Min-su Who Denies 5·18 Must Be Withdrawn"

Gwangju City Council Holds Press Conference... Also Urges Hosting Honam Region Livelihood Forum

Lee Seong-yoon, a member of the National Assembly representing Jeonju-si Eul, Jeollabuk-do, who is running as a candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea's Supreme Council member, visited Gwangju on the 11th to appeal for support.

On the same day, Lee held a press conference at the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, urging the withdrawal of the nomination of Kang Min-soo as Commissioner of the National Tax Service and calling for a public discussion on livelihood issues in the Honam region.

Lee Seong-yoon, Democratic Party Supreme Council Candidate, "Nomination of Kang Min-su Who Denies 5·18 Must Be Withdrawn" On the afternoon of the 11th, Lee Seong-yoon, a candidate for the Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party of Korea, held a press conference at the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, urging the withdrawal of Kang Min-soo's nomination as Commissioner of the National Tax Service and calling for the holding of a public discussion on livelihood issues in the Honam region.

He said, "The prosecution, which used to 'shut up' in front of President Yoon Seok-yeol in Yongsan and Kim Kun-hee, is now 'collectively rebelling' and intimidating the public as the impeachment motion against prosecutors is submitted," adding, "I believe that completing the prosecution reform, which has never succeeded since the establishment of the Republic of Korea government, and returning the prosecution to the people is the spirit of May 18 today."

He continued, "Having worked in the prosecution for decades, I know the physiology and essence of the prosecution better than anyone else, making me the right person to complete prosecution reform."

Regarding the nomination of Kang Min-soo as Commissioner of the National Tax Service, he stated, "It was revealed through the media that Kang Min-soo, Commissioner of the Seoul National Tax Service, seriously disparaged the May 18 Democratic Uprising in his master's thesis written in 1995," emphasizing, "Specifically, he not only praised the December 12 military coup as a 'righteous act' but also lauded Chun Doo-hwan, who massacred the people, for decisively exercising decisions under the pretext of national stability and for his leadership being so strong that it was unrivaled."

He added, "He used the term 'Gwangju Incident,' which the Chun Doo-hwan new military regime used to label the May 18 Democratic Uprising as a riot, in his thesis, thereby disparaging the spirit of May in Gwangju," and insisted, "President Yoon Seok-yeol must immediately withdraw the nomination of Kang Min-soo, who mocks the citizens of Gwangju with a biased perception."

Furthermore, he criticized, "President Yoon Seok-yeol held livelihood discussion meetings almost every 3 to 4 days before the general election, releasing election-oriented populist policies. While 15 sessions were held in the metropolitan area and 4 in the Yeongnam region, only one session was held in the Honam region," adding, "Moreover, the fact that the People Power Party held the livelihood discussion meeting just five days after finalizing the Gwangju and Jeonnam nominations raises doubts about its sincerity."

He continued, "If the Yoon Seok-yeol administration has any sincerity, it should hold a livelihood discussion meeting in the Honam region immediately," warning, "Otherwise, it will admit that the livelihood discussion meetings were nothing but insincere electioneering using government power."

He also said, "Despite the public's anger reaching a critical point, the so-called 'Yoon Seok-yeol special prosecutor,' the 'Chae Hae-byeong special prosecutor law,' has been vetoed again, stirring nationwide outrage," explaining, "I am a prosecutor who graduated from the Judicial Research and Training Institute at the same time as Yoon Seok-yeol, so I have long experienced his ruthlessness firsthand and know him well."

He emphasized, "It is said that if you know your enemy and yourself, you will win every battle. Knowing Yoon Seok-yeol well, I will join the Democratic Party leadership and confront Yoon more strongly than anyone else."

He added, "With the determination of party unity, I will surely win the war against President Yoon Seok-yeol together with party members and comrades."
