From June 24 to 28, the Department of Library and Information Science at Silla University offered the "Reading Psychology Counselor Certification Course" for current students and local youth interested in bibliotherapy and reading psychology counseling. The course covered topics such as the theoretical background of bibliotherapy, understanding counseling psychology, comprehension and questioning of bibliotherapy materials, bibliotherapy based on developmental psychology, and the design of bibliotherapy programs. The program focused on both theory and practical skills, and awarded the Reading Psychology Counselor Certificate to 18 successful participants.
This education program, part of the department’s tailored curriculum to nurture information curators leading a knowledge-based society, was conducted in collaboration with the Korea Enneagram Personality Research Institute, a professional organization for reading psychology counselor training. The course aimed to develop competencies in emotional healing and preventive values through reading as a reading psychology counselor.
Yoon Junhyeong, a student from the Department of Library and Information Science at Silla University who obtained the certificate, said, "Earning the Reading Psychology Counselor Certification has given me greater confidence in the professional skills required for librarians in libraries and educational settings where I plan to work in the future. It was a valuable experience that will greatly help in setting my career path."
Cha Seongjong, head of the Department of Library and Information Science at Silla University, stated, "In the era of a digital knowledge-based society, communication and emotional connection based on humanities literacy are extremely important to respond to future societal changes. Our department will continue to operate specialized curricula to help students turn their dreams into reality through dynamic educational activities."
The Department of Library and Information Science at Silla University was the first to be established among universities in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region, and has produced outstanding librarians and teacher-librarians based on its long history and tradition. In particular, in the 2021 teacher-librarian recruitment exam for elementary and secondary schools, the department achieved remarkable success with 10 students passing the exam.
