Preparation of Response Measures to Minimize Typhoon Damage with Related Organizations and Groups
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kwon Oh-seong) held the ‘Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Technology Committee’ on the 10th in the small conference room to prepare for the 2024 typhoon season.
According to Mokpo Maritime Police on the 11th, 15 maritime rescue cooperation organizations and groups, including local governments, Mokpo Meteorological Office, Mokpo Fire Station, and the Korea Maritime Rescue Association, attended the meeting.
The committee was held to proactively prevent maritime accidents caused by typhoons and to establish an organic rescue cooperation system.

The ‘Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Technology Committee’ operates under the Act on Search and Rescue on Water to develop rapid and effective search and rescue activity plans and to carry out appropriate search and rescue missions by utilizing private sector technology and expertise.
The meeting began with the 2024 typhoon and weather forecast presentation by the Mokpo Meteorological Office of the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration, followed by △inspection of maritime accident prevention and response systems in preparation for typhoon arrival △confirmation of cooperation and support among maritime rescue organizations and groups △discussion on overall development plans for on-site rescue cooperation systems △and collection of opinions from related agencies regarding maritime accident preparedness and response.
Kwon Oh-seong, Chief of Mokpo Maritime Police Station, said, “In the event of a disaster at sea, cooperation among maritime rescue cooperation organizations is most important for rapid and systematic response,” adding, “Mokpo Maritime Police will continue to do its best to protect the lives and property of the people by establishing an organic system with related agencies and organizations.”
