ESG Achievements Including Greenhouse Gas and Waste Reduction
Expanding Future-Type Kitchens with High-Efficiency Kitchen Equipment Introduced
Samsung Welstory announced on the 11th that it has published the '2024 Sustainability Management Report,' which contains the achievements of its sustainability management efforts throughout last year.
This Sustainability Management Report includes various achievements of ESG management activities, focusing on key tasks derived from a double materiality assessment considering both financial impact and environmental and social impact, such as ▲greenhouse gas management ▲waste reduction ▲food safety ▲and the creation of a sustainable food culture.
Samsung Welstory has established a greenhouse gas inventory to create a systematic carbon emission management foundation and, based on this, has been promoting activities to reduce carbon emissions such as building high-efficiency kitchens, introducing low-emission certified logistics vehicles, and reducing the carbon footprint of menus.
Additionally, as part of its waste reduction efforts, Samsung Welstory participated in the Ministry of Environment's 'Leftover Food Target Management and Reduction Competition' with over 230 business sites last year, achieving results in reducing leftover food per meal.
Along with this, in response to the trend of increasing use of convenience meals provided in disposable containers, unlike typical meal menus, Samsung Welstory has continued activities to reduce disposable product usage and expand resource circulation by introducing reusable container services for convenience meal provision.
Furthermore, to strengthen food safety, Samsung Welstory introduced a 'hazard assessment model' that evaluates risk levels by food type, establishing quality management standards for ingredients that can prevent food accidents and hazards in advance.
A Samsung Welstory official stated, "The food and beverage industry is facing enormous crises and changes due to rapid climate change and global supply chain instability," adding, "We will continue our efforts to create a healthy and eco-friendly food culture so that the food and beverage industry ecosystem we belong to can move toward a sustainable future."
