Qualcomm to Meet LG Electronics CEO... Discuss AI Collaboration

Seeking Collaboration on Edge and On-Device AI

Christiano Amon, President and CEO of Qualcomm, is visiting Korea to meet with Cho Joo-wan, CEO of LG Electronics. The collaboration between Qualcomm and LG Electronics is expected to strengthen, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI).

According to industry sources on the 10th, CEO Amon is scheduled to meet with CEO Cho on the afternoon of the 11th at LG Electronics' headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, to discuss ways to expand cooperation between the two companies.

LG Electronics has maintained collaboration with Qualcomm since its mobile business (MC Business Division) days. Currently, the partnership is expanding into audio products and automotive electronics (vehicle electrical and electronic equipment) sectors.

In 2022, Qualcomm's application processor (AP), the 'Snapdragon 680,' was installed in LG Electronics' tablet PCs, and Qualcomm's audio solution 'aptX Adaptive' was applied to LG Electronics' wireless earphones, Tone Free.

Qualcomm supplies vehicle telematics and infotainment chips to LG Electronics' VS Business Division, which is responsible for automotive electronics.

This meeting is expected to involve broad discussions on business cooperation centered on automotive electronics and on-device AI.

Recently, LG Electronics established an organization under the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) division to oversee the on-device AI business strategy, so related business discussions are also anticipated.

During his visit, CEO Amon may also meet with other domestic companies, including Samsung Electronics.

Earlier, on the 10th of last month, CEO Amon met with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong during a business trip in the United States to discuss ways to expand cooperation in the future semiconductor market, including AI semiconductors and next-generation communication chips.
