Korean Game Companies Challenge Europe's Largest Game Show 'Gamescom'

Nexon, Krafton, Pearl Abyss and Other Major Game Companies Showcase New Releases

Korean Game Companies Challenge Europe's Largest Game Show 'Gamescom'

Major South Korean game companies, strengthening their entry into the PC and console markets, will participate in large numbers at 'Gamescom 2024,' Europe's largest game show opening next month.

According to the gaming industry on the 10th, Nexon, Krafton, and Pearl Abyss have finalized their participation and new game demonstration plans for Gamescom 2024, which will be held in Cologne, Germany, from August 21 to 25 (local time).

First, Nexon will have a solo booth at Gamescom showcasing the action role-playing game (RPG) 'First Berserker: Kazan,' developed by its subsidiary Neople. 'Kazan' is a PC and console action game based on Neople's flagship IP (intellectual property) 'Dungeon & Fighter.' The game features animation-style graphics for its action sequences. Nexon plans to reveal a new trailer and game information for 'Kazan' starting from the opening night live (ONL) pre-event.

Pearl Abyss will open a B2C booth and demonstrate its upcoming title 'Red Desert' to the general public for the first time. Red Desert is Pearl Abyss's first single-player-focused PC and console open-world RPG. Last year, the game received positive reviews after presenting a new trailer at the Gamescom ONL event.

Krafton will showcase two new titles, 'Dark and Darker Mobile' and 'InZOI,' along with its flagship game 'PUBG: Battlegrounds.' All these games were developed primarily in South Korea. Krafton previously participated in Gamescom in 2022 with 'The Callisto Protocol' and 'Moonbreaker,' developed by its overseas subsidiaries.

The Korea Creative Content Agency will also set up a Korean joint pavilion in the B2B area of Gamescom this year to support the promotion and investment attraction of domestic indie and small-to-medium game companies. Unlike last year, when only B2B exhibitions were supported, this year they will operate a B2C program for one day and increase the number of participating companies from 15 to 18, including VR and AR companies.

The G-STAR organizing committee, which hosts South Korea's largest game show G-STAR, will also participate in Gamescom this year to promote G-STAR.
