"NATO and Four Indo-Pacific Countries to Confirm Cooperation"
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida departed from Tokyo Haneda Airport to attend the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit meeting held in the United States.
According to major Japanese media on the 10th, Prime Minister Kishida told reporters before departure, "I want to take this opportunity to reaffirm the continuous cooperative relationship between NATO and Indo-Pacific partner countries, including Japan."
He also stated that during his visit to the U.S., he would hold individual meetings with South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, among others.
Additionally, a meeting is scheduled between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the leaders of the four NATO Indo-Pacific partner countries (IP4) ? South Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. This summit was requested by Ukraine to the IP4, and given that Russia's armed invasion has continued for over two years, it is expected to demand unwavering support and assistance for Ukraine.
At this NATO summit, Prime Minister Kishida is expected to explain the trends regarding China and North Korea and share the recognition that security in Europe and Asia regions is inseparably linked. After completing his schedule in the U.S., Kishida will move to Germany to hold a summit meeting with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and then return to Japan on the 14th.
