Councilor Wonhui Jo elected as the Speaker of the 9th Daejeon City Council's second half / Daejeon City Council
The Daejeon City Council held the second plenary session of its 280th extraordinary meeting on the 10th, where it elected its leadership: Councilor Cho Wonhui (People Power Party, Yuseong-gu 3) as Chairperson, Councilor Song Daeyoon (Democratic Party, Yuseong-gu 2) as First Vice Chairperson, and Councilor Hwang Kyunga (People Power Party, Proportional Representative) as Second Vice Chairperson.
Chairperson-elect Cho Wonhui stated, "I will not abuse the authority entrusted to me by the citizens and will use it properly," adding, "I will value humility as a virtue and harmony as a core principle, and will faithfully support my fellow council members in their legislative activities."
On this day, Councilor Cho Wonhui failed to secure a majority with 11 votes in both the first and second rounds of voting, but won the final runoff with 15 votes, defeating Councilor Park Juhwa, who received 7 votes, and was elected as the Chairperson for the latter half of the 9th council term.
First Vice Chairperson-elect Song Daeyoon said, "I will ensure that the council becomes a model institution by fostering harmony among council members beyond party lines, while faithfully carrying out the council’s role of oversight and monitoring of city administration."
Second Vice Chairperson-elect Hwang Kyunga emphasized, "Over the next two years, I will fulfill my duties as Vice Chairperson by working diligently, serving as a communication channel between the leadership and standing committee members, and practicing close cooperation with my fellow councilors."
Meanwhile, the Daejeon City Council plans to elect the standing committee chairs on the 15th and the operations committee chair on the 17th.
