Selling Radish and Napa Cabbage 30% Cheaper Than Market Price
Alleviating Consumer Price Burden... Supporting Farmers' Win-Win
Lotte Mart and Lotte Super are introducing cooperative cabbage, radish, and peeled garlic to curb vegetable prices during the rainy season.
On the 11th, Lotte Mart and Super announced that they will sell cooperative cabbage, radish, and peeled garlic at prices about 30% lower on average than market prices to ease consumer burdens caused by rising vegetable prices. Radish and cabbage will be sold for four days from today until the 14th, and peeled garlic will be available until the 17th to meet demand during Chobok (the first of the three hottest days).

During the event period, the selling prices of cooperative agricultural products are ▲cooperative cabbage (1.5 kg or more) 2,590 won ▲cooperative radish (800g or more) 1,290 won ▲cooperative peeled garlic (1 kg, bag) 5,990 won. According to Lotte Mart, cooperative agricultural products may be somewhat smaller or have minor blemishes, but their taste and nutrition are not significantly different from regular products.
Lotte Mart is introducing cooperative agricultural products due to the recent sharp rise in vegetable prices compared to previous years. Since last month, record-breaking heatwaves and the rainy season have continued, reducing the production of cabbage and radish, and there are forecasts that crop conditions will worsen as the rainy season intensifies. As of the auction prices at Garak Market on the 9th of this month, radish is priced around 1,900 won each, and cabbage is around 4,300 won per head. These prices represent increases of over 50% and 140%, respectively, compared to the previous year.
The vegetable merchandiser (MD) at Lotte Mart and Super said that to prepare cooperative agricultural products, they have been directly monitoring crop conditions since May and secured 60 tons of radish, 20 tons of cabbage, and 35 tons of fresh peeled garlic. Lotte Mart emphasized that cooperative agricultural products not only offer prices lower than market rates but also open sales channels for produce that is difficult to commercialize, playing a role in mutual growth with farmers.
Earlier, Lotte Mart and Super launched about 60 types of cooperative agricultural products this year, including fruits such as strawberries and oriental melons, and vegetables like cabbage and paprika. Sales of cooperative agricultural products from January to June this year increased by more than 120% compared to the same period last year.
Going forward, Lotte Mart and Super plan to introduce cooperative products in response to crop conditions and market price issues. Hong Yun-hee, MD of the vegetable team at Lotte Mart and Super, said, "Through this cooperative cabbage and radish, we hope consumers can purchase fresh vegetables without burden despite rising vegetable prices," adding, "We will continue to actively respond to crop issues caused by climate and do our best to stabilize vegetable prices and promote mutual growth with farmers."
