Dongdaemun-gu Promotes Meal Support for Children at Risk of Food Insecurity

Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) is promoting a meal support project for children at risk of food insecurity.

There is a focused application period until the 12th of this month in preparation for the summer vacation, and applications can be submitted at any time even after the focused application period.

The support targets children under 18 years old who are at risk of food insecurity due to economic circumstances, parental health, and other reasons.

Applicants or their guardians can apply by visiting the local community service center in their jurisdiction in person, or through various methods such as online (Bokjiro website) or mail.

The Dongdaemun-gu Child and Youth Division and the Child Meal Committee will determine eligibility and provide support. Additionally, children may be selected as beneficiaries through the committee’s review based on recommendations from homeroom teachers, social workers, community leaders, or responsible public officials.

Selected children can use the Child Meal Card (Kkum Namu Card) to directly use affiliated stores (such as regular restaurants, convenience stores, etc.) or visit group meal centers like local children’s centers.

Affiliated stores and balance inquiries can be checked through the ‘Seoul City Kkum Namu Card’ application.

The district operates about 3,600 affiliated stores for the Child Meal Card to provide children with diverse and balanced meals, and from this year, the meal unit price has been increased from 8,000 KRW to 9,000 KRW per meal.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “We will actively support children so they can grow up healthy without hunger,” and pledged to continue efforts to create a ‘child-friendly educational city.’
