A policy debate to urge the establishment of the National Dental Research Institute in Cheonan was held at the National Assembly on the 10th.
The "Policy Debate to Urge the Establishment of the National Dental Research Institute in Cheonan" was organized by Cheonan City and Chungcheongnam-do Province, and hosted by National Assembly members Moon Jinseok, Lee Jaegwan, and Lee Jeongmun. The debate aimed to form a consensus that the National Dental Research Institute should be established through designation rather than a nationwide public contest, and to promote the prompt establishment for the development of the dental industry.
The debate was attended by Kim Seokpil, Deputy Mayor of Cheonan City, Kim Kiyoung, Deputy Governor of Chungcheongnam-do Province, Park Jumin, Vice Chairman of the Health and Welfare Committee, Lee Junghyuk, Director of Dankook University Dental Hospital, and Kwon Geungrok, President of the Korean Academy of Dental Science, among others.
Lee Jaeil, Professor at Seoul National University School of Dentistry, gave a presentation on "The Necessity and Urgency of the National Dental Research Institute," and Kwon Geungrok, President of the Korean Academy of Dental Science, explained the "Development Direction of the National Dental Research Institute (Talent Development and R&D)."
In the subsequent discussion, Hwang Chungju, Director of Osstem Implant Dental Research Institute, Jeon Eunjeong, Director of the Oral Policy Division at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Jeong Sehwan, President of the Korean Academy of Preventive Dentistry and Oral Health, Lee Junghyuk, Director of Dankook University Dental Hospital, and Lee Changju, President of the Chungnam Dental Association, reviewed the progress of the Cheonan National Dental Research Institute establishment and discussed ways to secure its justification.
In addition, the city, together with Chungcheongnam-do Province, will launch a signature campaign aiming for one million residents by September. To rally public support for the Cheonan National Dental Research Institute, a presidential pledge, both online and offline signature campaigns will be conducted to achieve the goal of one million signatures.
Mayor Park Sangdon said, "A nationwide public contest could cause unnecessary controversy and waste administrative resources, so the establishment of the Cheonan National Dental Research Institute, which is a presidential regional pledge, should be promoted through designation, not a public contest. We will continue to work together with Chungcheongnam-do Province to ensure that the Dental Research Institute can be established in Cheonan."
