4th Anniversary Memorial Event for General Paik Sunyup
Kim Hakhong, Vice Governor of North Gyeongsang Province, attended the memorial ceremony for the late General Paik Sunyup at the Dabudong Battle Memorial Hall in Chilgok on the 10th.
This memorial event was jointly organized by the Paik Sunyup General Memorial Foundation and the Army Headquarters to mark the fourth anniversary of his passing.
Kim Hakhong, Deputy Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, is delivering a memorial address at the 4th anniversary memorial event for the late General Baek Sunyeop.
The event was attended by key figures such as Kwon Younghae, Advisor to the National Senior Council, Kwon Ohsung, President of the Korea Army Association, Lim Hoyoung, President of the Korea-US Alliance Foundation, Park Hyungsu, President of the Dabudong Battle Patriots Association, as well as heads of veterans' organizations in the North Gyeongsang region, Korean War veterans, and about 150 others.
The late General Paik Sunyup played a pivotal role in the victory of the "Battle of Dabudong," which saved the Republic of Korea during the Korean War, defending the Nakdong River front and securing a bridgehead for the ROK and UN forces, thereby supporting the Incheon Landing Operation.
He is famous for the anecdote during the war when he said, "I will take the lead in fighting. If I retreat, shoot me first," and charged with his troops to reclaim the high ground occupied by the North Korean People's Army, turning the tide of battle.
The memorial ceremony included floral tributes and incense offerings, welcoming remarks, memorial speeches, words of gratitude from the bereaved family representative, a memorial performance, and the singing of military songs, making it a meaningful occasion to honor the noble patriotism of the late General Paik Sunyup.
Through a memorial speech (delivered on his behalf), Kim Hakhong, Vice Governor of North Gyeongsang Province, stated, "We will uphold the spirit of General Paik Sunyup, who always put the nation and liberal democracy before himself, and protect North Gyeongsang Province and the Republic of Korea with an even greater sense of responsibility."
